Waterloo, IA
August 30-Sept 1, 2019
We met our Airstream Buddies in Waterloo, IA (an almost half-way point) and spent Labor Day weekend at the KOA. We planned this trip because this campsite was supposed to have a waterpark attached to it -- but surprisingly, they closed the weekend before Labor Day! It ended up that the weather would not have been very conducive to go to the waterpark anyway. Thankfully, we were able to have lots of fun together without the water park's help. Our KOA had a cardboard boat race -- something we had never participated in before. We were given sheets of cardboard and rolls of duct tape. The kids formed teams and got to work building the boats. The other element of excitement for this camping trip was that we brought the kitties with us. They whined for the first part of the trip but then settled in and relaxed. It was really great having them with us -- and Taylor only escaped once.
Another favorite part of the trip was combining meals -- we ate like kings all weekend long! We cooked the first night, our friends made oatmeal+ice cream for breakfast and we tag teamed the rest of the time.
We rented huge water tricycles and the kids had a blast! It was a weekend to remember -- and we look forward to planning next summer's adventure together: Acadia National Park!
